creative wellness wednesdays!
SoulCraft - WELCOME TO WEEK FOUR

Hello and welcome back to the last instalment of this creative wellness series! Don't worry if you missed the previous weeks, you can scroll down for all the videos in this series.

We're inviting you to set aside a half hour every week during July to join us for a tiny craft snack!

You can follow along with me or use the time for your own activity. Remember, the aim is to spend some time relaxing and doing something creative!
In this demonstration I will be removing my weavings from the loom and finishing. I switch between my plain weave piece and my braid weave piece to make a tiny pouch and a tiny hanging.
Note - I have managed to keep it to 30 minutes this time!!
You will need;
-your weaving(s)
-a yarn (or other large) needle
-some lengths of yarn to sew with and/or make tassels from
-a button and a smaller needle which will fit through the buttonholes
-a twig or dowel if you want to make a hanging

Stay well, be INSPIRED and keep on SOULCRAFTing!
SoulCraft - WELCOME TO WEEK THREE

Hello and welcome back to our creative wellness series! Don't worry if you missed weeks one & two, you can scroll down for all the videos in this series.

We're inviting you to set aside a half hour every week during July to join us for a tiny craft snack!

You can follow along with me or use the time for your own activity. Remember, the aim is to spend some time relaxing and doing something creative!
In this demonstration I will be weaving on a cardboard loom using the braid weave.
Note - this week's video is slightly longer at 42 minutes!!
You will need;
-your cardboard loom (I'm using a 3.5x5.5" loom for this video)
-a yarn (or other large) needle
-some strong cotton type thread such as embroidery floss to use for your warp thread (the vertical thread that runs up and down the loom that you weave in and out of)
-yarns to use for your weft material (this is what you weave with)

You will need;
-your cardboard loom (I'm using a 4x6" loom for this video)
-a yarn (or other large) needle -some strong cotton type thread such as embroidery floss to use for your warp thread (the vertical thread that runs up and down the loom that you weave in and out of) -yarns to use for your weft material (this is what you weave with)

SoulCraft - WELCOME TO WEEK ONE

Hello and THANK YOU for joining us for some crafty time!

We're inviting you to set aside a half hour every week during July to join us for a tiny craft snack!

You can follow along with me or use the time for your own activity. Remember, the aim is to spend some time relaxing and doing something creative!

In these demonstrations I will be making a loom from cardboard and showing several different weaves. I made three looms in total for these videos.
Note - this first video is 45 minutes long because I wanted to show you how to make the loom and get you started with weaving in week one. Subsequent videos will be shorter!
You will need;
-cardboard (a leftover delivery box is perfect)
-pencil, ruler, scissors and glue
-a yarn (or other large) needle
-some strong cotton type thread such as embroidery floss to use for your warp thread (the vertical thread that runs up and down the loom that you weave in and out of)
-yarns to use for your weft material (this is what you weave with)
-scrap fabrics cut into strips, trims or ribbon, lace or anything else you might want to try weaving with
Technical details;
- My looms are 4x6", 3.5x5.5" and 3x4".
- On the larger two of my demo looms I have an odd number of notches and therefore warp threads and an even number on the smaller loom. For this activity it really doesn't matter if you make a loom with an odd or even number of notches or if you warp with an odd or even number of threads.
- Cut two strips of cardboard the same width as your loom to stick at each end once you've cut all your notches. These will lift the warp thread off the loom making weaving easier and create less tension on your card from the warp thread.
- For a 4x6" loom with notches, you'll need a 180" length of warp thread.
